There's so much going on with each of these. First of all, I love that you have a section called "Liner Notes" which just made me smile. I only got (re)got into cassette culture within the last year but I get real kinda of authentic "mixtape" vibe from these.
I'm such fan of these tracks plus lyrics. It flips the medium on its head a bit. With digital streaming you really can't engage with the lyrics directly, the audio is first. What you are doing is like a LP. To get the record out, you first see the liner notes like you say, THEN you listen.
I also kinda like how you just end the track with hard cut. It's like, the song is over, done. I think most things just fade out now to allow for some transitions, but this really stands out to me (in a good way). From playing trumpet I think a lot of those songs have just a powerful note to end on and then done. So it reminds me of that.
All of the above was _just_ about the production quality. Then you have the actual content, which is incredibly powerful as well.
Thanks Josh! I really appreciate that a lot. Thanks for taking the time to sit with my work and give me that feedback. It really helps me get a sense of what works well, and what I should keep doing. Ima keep doing the liner notes now for sure, and that point about the ending, I have a track ive been work in on that does a sort of quick transition, when its ready to share, I think you'd like it. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Peace alex, 🙏🏽, I really appreciate you tuning in and dropping a line. Feel free to share as much as you feel comfortable. Would really love to hear your thoughts either here or on a side bar. I love your work and appreciate what you doing!
Ps. Thank you so much regarding the vocals and instrumentals, I’m an amateur mixing/audio engineer, so that’s dope feedback to hear around the audio!
I'm thinking of how men handle trauma, especially childhood trauma. Many of them searching for healing but either don't want to seen as weak, afraid to speak up or unfortunately avoid it. I've been told some horrific stories over the years and I'm thinking of those men that are living with that pain.
I see the growth! Everyone has to start somewhere and you're doing an awesome job. Keep doing it! 🩶
Alex, thank you so much for saying that. 100%, trauma is often stuffed into parts of the body, held there. And the whole ‘be cool’ or ‘cutting off emotions’ that sort of narrative makes things hard to sort of access those feelings. And traumas. But those things always bubble up, and when they do, there is anger and rage towards self, rather than compassion… I’m still working through that, it’s really hard, but, I just want to open up conversations and encourage healing 🙏🏽. Appreciate you taking the time to write this 💚
man, my brother, got more than another one. The more you listen the more this does sound like what happens when a poet finds a 9th Wonder beat...the narrator is like a man who skipped therapy, and decided to solve the human condition in 45 seconds. Every line feels like it got edited by a motherfucking ghost with a PhD and real trauma issues. It’s got that rare combo of lyrical density and “wait, should I be worried about this character?”...in the best, most re-listenable way. if rap had a Criterion Collection, this would come with liner notes, the footnotes are already written. Instant cult classic. yall grandkids gonna get this cat. me, im hip.
Yo, my brotha, thank you for this comment fam. That part about PhD! Ha, I tell you about the time I applied to PhD programs, ?,—about 4 times, over the span of 4 years. Was rejected every time lol 😂 so yeah, you might be on to something there. Really appreciate you digging this work, thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💚
Flows are on point! Breath control, bars dense with meaning AND sound like 9th Wonder tailored that for you(which considering the beat was made for SP is fucking crazy)!!
Thank Pablo! Gracia 'mano 🙏🏽. Really appricate those words especially so one as technically skilled with the Zanpakutō as you are. Kenpachi, super dope!
Best to ever do it.
💚 thanks for dropping some green love on here. It’s much appreciated 🙏🏽😊!
